Backerkit Questions!
almost 11 years ago – Tue, Jun 16, 2015 at 07:10:34 PM

Hi everyone!

We hope that our American friends had a nice memorial day weekend, and that the rest of our fellow Commonwealthers enjoyed celebrating the birthday of England’s all-time 2nd greatest Queen.

Matilda, the worst English Queen, gets no such celebration. Maybe next time don't plunge your country into civil war, Mathilda. Jeez.

In the meantime, we’ve had some questions concerning backerkit, reward-delivery and DRM-details. Here goes:

What are the T-shirt measurements?

The t-shirts are the finest american apparel 2001 cut. People seem to like them! Here’s a measurement chart.

http://www.americanapparel.net/garmentspecs/Index.asp?GarmentSpecID=2001&M=0

Am I locked into my backerkit choices when I submit them?

No! The nice thing about backerkit is we can take a step-by-step approach to handling our reward fulfillment info, rather than needing to lock everyone into their selections early on. You’ll be able to log back into your backerkit profile and make changes, and we’ll give you plenty of warning before we finalize your selections.

My pledge level includes Closed Alpha and/or Beta Access. Will my DRM-free or Steam choice affect that?

No, not at all. Your choice of DRM-free or Steam key won’t affect your access to Closed Alpha/Closed Beta or steam early access. It’s only relevant to the code you’ll receive from us with full release.

What merchant platform will the DRM-free copies be released on?

Good question! Right now it’s between GOG and Humble. Truthfully, either one is a fine choice, so we haven’t fully committed to one or the other.

When we get closer to our full release, we’ll decide which one. Who knows, maybe by then one of them will have some amazing new killer feature that’s going to make it a no brainer. We'll let you know when we decide. And feel free to express your preference! (Right now, GOG is in the lead.)

Thanks for signing up!

Hopefully that answers all pressing questions! If you have any more, please send them to [email protected] (for backerkit specific ones) or [email protected]. Either way, they’ll likely end up in my (Peter’s) inbox, and I’ll make sure to get back to you as quick as I (Peter) can.

Thanks again!

Backerkit Launched! Please sign up!
almost 11 years ago – Sat, May 23, 2015 at 05:41:53 AM

Hello again!

We released the backerkit emails last night!

A quick recap: backerkit helps crowdfunding campaigns manage logistics and track all information relevant to backers, so that things like contact info and pledge reward allocation don’t get mixed up. Also, if you move, you’ll be able to update your address with backerkit so that we’ll be able to make sure we send your rewards to the right place.

Finally, Backerkit (unlike Kickstarter) has no limits on the numbers of surveys we can send out, so we’ll be able to use it to track things like your design-an-officer backer reward specifications -- when the time is right, that is.

Speaking of, we're hard at work on the first reward (closed alpha), which we'll be sending to all Lt. Commander backers (and up) as soon as it's ready. Expect it sometime in the fall! The goal is to get the game ready for release as soon as possible, then go into full reward-fulfillment mode directly after.

Multitasking can sometimes be hard.
Multitasking can sometimes be hard.

In the meantime, backerkit will ask you to fill out a short survey where you can input your shipping info, add-ons, t-shirt size (for those who are receiving one), steam/DRM-free preference, etc.

Thanks for signing up! It's a huge help for us.

If you have any issues, you can email [email protected]. They should be able to help sort anything out!

Thanks again, and we’ll be in touch!

The Funds Have Arrived!
almost 11 years ago – Mon, May 18, 2015 at 06:53:47 PM

Hello, friends!

It’s the second Thursday of the month, so that means it’s Halcyon 6 update time. Huzzah!

First, you should know that, after weeks of nail-biting and breath-bating, our kickstarter funds came through! Fantastic!

Backerkit

Now that the funds are secured, we just have a few protocols to go through with Backerkit. Expect the invitations in your inbox next week!

Office!

"Wait, THAT'S what they look like??"
"Wait, THAT'S what they look like??"

As promised, here’s some pics of our new office. Well, kinda new. We’ve been here almost two months, but we’re still settling in -- as you can see.

Still in a transition phase. Don't worry, it'll get there!
Still in a transition phase. Don't worry, it'll get there!

We’re a little sad to have migrated away from the vibrant, young, exposed-brickiness of Queen West (think Brooklyn, but Canadian, so a bit more practical and self-conscious) to the stodgy, suit-and-tie, government-agencies-and-banks-iness of of the financial district. But at the same time, it’s got a better bang/buck ratio, and the extra space has definitely come in handy.

Shout Out: Tokyo Dark

Super quick shout out to our fellow Square Enix Collectivites at Cherrymochi!

A super dark, awesome-looking, 2d anime adventure game. Check it out!

Next Steps

Right now, there's not too much to say other than we're in hardcore development mode, and we're not likely to leave it for the next few months.

In terms of positive steps, the code framework for combat is nearly set, which constitutes the foundation of the game. With that in place, Lucky and Jeff can code their separate ways, branching off into creating the interrelated systems of the game.

Meanwhile, Peter and Linda have been hard at work ensuring that the GUI will function across platforms and different controller types. While we have no current plans for releases past PC/Mac/Linux, it's good to know that the option will remain open to us going forward. It takes some planning, but it all pays off in the end, with better, more intuitive UI/UX.

We’ve got a tight project schedule, but so far so good. If anything, we’re a tiny bit ahead of schedule and very much on track to enter our Closed Alpha in September/October.

And it might go without saying, but thanks for your continued support. We're hard at work, and we couldn't be happier with our progress so far.

And keep an eye out for the Backerkit invitations!

Off To The Races!
almost 11 years ago – Thu, May 14, 2015 at 11:00:22 AM

Hi everyone, what’s up?

BackerKit Update

So we were hoping to get the BackerKit surveys sent out by now, but unfortunately there was a mix-up with our Kickstarter account payment info. The good news is it’s being sorted out with Kickstarter, but it could be a number of days before that gets finished and we can move onto the BackerKit phase. We can’t wait to get you all properly registered for your tiers and rewards!

Then again, we clearly just said we were waiting. Cognitive dissonance FTW!

But expect the BackerKit emails to arrive in your inbox within the next week or two!

Additions To Combat

In the meantime, Lucky and Jeff have been working together to integrate our Lua framework into our combat architecture. Once that’s done, Peter can start creating Lua scripts to build in-combat special attack powers like:

Ramming speed!
Ramming speed!

 And:

Tricky teleportation maneuvers!
Tricky teleportation maneuvers!

 And:

Superpoweredhyperdestructionbeams!
Superpoweredhyperdestructionbeams!

Needless to say, we're excited where we're going with our combat system!

Other News

  • We submitted to PAX Prime, so hopefully we’ll have some positive news on that front either for the next update or the one after. That’d be swell!
  • We’ve gotten settled into our new office, which we’re sharing with a few friends. We’ll send some pics next time.

Shout Outs

Here’s some shout outs for some fellow Canadian game devs -- both from la belle provence! (That's Quebec, for anyone who doesn't know).

Ultimate Chicken Horse

An awesome-looking competitive multiplayer party game that actually integrates player-designed levels each step of the way! Can't wait to get our hands on a copy for our office, even if it leads to lots of yelling and potential lifelong grudges.

Outward

All I can say is wow! A truly impressive project coming from Nine Dots Studio in Quebec. Skyrim meets Dark Souls meets survival mechanics?

Like I said... wow.

Paypal Campaign Launched + Update
almost 11 years ago – Sat, Apr 25, 2015 at 02:15:57 PM

We're Back!

Hello Halcyon 6 backers!

It's been almost one week since our campaign ended, and we thought we'd give you a quick update on what we've been up to in our post-campaign haze.

Post-Campaign/Backerkit Details

It generally takes about 2 weeks until after the campaign ends for kickstarter to process your pledges. But once that's all straightened out, we'll be sending you our Backerkit surveys, which will be the next step in towards you getting your rewards.

The surveys should drop in your emails sometime in the next two weeks. Once they do, it'll be a simple process for you to select your desired tiers and add-ons, sort out all necessary reward fulfillment details and fix any hiccups that might appear. With Backerkit, you'll also be able to easily keep us up to date on any relevant details if they change in the coming months (whether you move, change emails, etc.)

Paypal Campaign

We had to sort out a few payment issues, but with the help of humbundle.com we launched our post-kickstarter paypal campaign that you can access here: http://h6game.net/paypal/ . Feel free to let your friends know, especially if they wanted to pledge during the campaign but didn't have access to a credit card.

It will be a short 10 day campaign, after which we'll be sending out our backerkit invites to all of our backers, kickstarter and paypal alike!

PAX Prime 2015 Submission!

On Friday we'll be submitting Halcyon 6 for the Pax Prime indie megabooth this year. Fingers crossed! We'll keep you up to date as to how that goes. Here's hoping we'll be seeing some of you in Seattle in a few months!

Halcyon 6 Wiki Launched On Gamepedia!

Pretty self-explanatory. Have a look

Update Schedule

Going forward, we're going to do our best to keep you up to date with our development progress but our primary focus will be on making the game.

So going forward, we're going to be slowing down our updates to a rate of one every two weeks. Keep an eye out for regular backer updates every second Thursday -- in addition to any major news, of course.

Thank you all again for everything, and we'll be in touch as soon as we can!
